Mum....

The poem on Mum's Order of Service last Friday meant a great deal to her, and the sentiments expressed in the words reflected the ways she cared about all the people that she loved and cherished. Her family meant the world to her - and Mum made friends all of her life. Over the years, at various family parties and get-togethers with friends - we always had a lot of fun. Mum had a great sense of humour and she frequently made us smile broadly and laugh out loud. She had a great stash of quotations, some born out of superstition, many of her own creation. They were Madgeisms! She would often counsel us: "Always be yourself!" And "Always have the courage of your convictions!" Sometimes, with a forefinger sagely wagging she'd say "Let no man, woman, or child upset you!" Mum would often and wisely advise us to "Look after the pennies and the pounds will look after themselves." And whenever Mum was on holiday, by the sea, or on a day trip somewhere, she would wander along with a wonderful sense of serenity, breathe the air deeply and say, "The air is like wine...." And while in this blissful state of euphoria, if we asked her a question and she didn't feel like answering she would decline and simply say airily "My brain's on holiday" Always, whenever the weather was cold outside she would say to us "Keep your chest coverfed and keep your mouth closed!" And finally, "If you see an ambulance you must hold your collar and not let go until you see a dog!" Wise words indeed......
